Sunday post of hope Some republicans speaking up

trump has admitted to asking Ukraine to help him “investigate” Biden. Pompeo tried to pretend he didn’t know about this debacle all of last weekend, but it was revealed get he was on the phone call himself…so we know that he was lying, or at least trying to fool the American people.

Now some republicans are claiming that this iz another “witch hunt” and that it is just like the Mueller report and a nothing burger. I would argue that the Mueller report is far from being a nothing burger. The findings about conspiring to collude tend to read like an indictment of the trump administration’s organizations skills rather than a true vindication. It didn’t say that Russian didn’t interfere but couldn’t prove that trump actually was organized in his efforts to collude. In other words, it seems that trump and his minions were not competent enough to be truly capable at colluding. That is far from a compliment or vindication of his honesty in the matter.

But let’s move on to this latter scandal. Republicans, who have typically shown a willingness to defend trump and to be complicit in the things he does, in order to keep power, are relative quiet on this although there is some talk about how to effectively deal with a quickly changing narrative. But some of them are speaking up, which is refreshing to see as it has been so rare that any republican has had the back bone to stand up to him.

First of all Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst have come out saying that the Whistle-Blower must be protected. This is a person who came out and shared with the right people his or her concern over the Ukraine being asked to “investigate” Biden and not only asking the Ukraine to take his side in internal politics of the United States, but timing it so that it would have to be considered to be the “price” of dong business with us. That is extortion, pure and simple.

Meanwhile Ron Johnson, another republican Senator has given a statement that confirms that trump seemed to be planning to do something of this sort. Senator Johnson went to trump to ask if he could reassure the Ukraine representatives that the military aid was coming and got blocked from doing so.

Finally, trump apparently is now to switch blame onto Rick Perry for this debacle of a phone call, a phone that a week ago he was claiming was perfect. Of course Perry is denying that he had anything to do with trump suggesting that the Ukraine owed us something as political as an ‘investigation of Biden” as payment for the military aid we were giving them (as a nation) to defend against Russia.

The hope that I want to suggest that we have available to us now is that the republicans may just be ready to see the error of their ways in defending this man-child living in the White House. It is to be hoped that maybe they are finally tired of defending things that can’t be defended, or shouldn’t be anyway, and will decide to stand up for justice and decency rather than partisan politics. Of course, I have had such hope before and the person or persons caved to him. But, if they stick to it, i take it as hope that there is some possibility than more might join them as time goes on and more information about what trump has been up to comes out. It shouldn’t be just Democrats seeking the truth. Everybody should want that, no matter who they are.

Meanwhile, with trump changing the narrative from one day to another, often totally contradicting what he said the prior day, it needs to be said that trump has shown a real reluctance to tell the truth and to admit to what his real plans are. If he has ever told the truth, he has in all likelihood told a lie the next about the same issue so how would ever know.

We have three Republican Senators who have said/testified to things thst trump doesn’t agree with. It would appear, based on a previous headline, that Rick Perry is already accepting the banishment of contradicting the words of trump. Apparently, he is leaving the administration probably in November. Now, I am the one that is thinking that perhaps he is leaving because he refuses to be trump’s fall guy.

Not that I like Rick Perry, particularly, but I do give him his due if he has the self-respect not to kowtow to the menace in the White House.
