Rant: No reason anybody to carry guns into the Capitol…send them home if they can’t live with that…stop the nonsense

Ok, now since Jan 20th, I have been in a good mood. Finally, I had hope that the nation was moving in the right direction. Biden has lived up to my expectations so far and I no complaint, although I haven’t heard yet whether he is going to re-establish normal relations with Cuba. It is past time that be done, our attitude toward Cuba is based on cold war attitudes that say that “anybody that is communist is our enemy”. Well, we have relaxed those attitudes with every other country but Cuba. The last administration had a “love affair” with one of the worst dictators in the world, so what is so bad about Cuba? Anyway, that really isn’t the point of the post.
What is the point, you may ask? It is simply the idiocy at the Capitol where Pelosi and others have been threatened. That is bipartisan, by the way, with Mary Cheney and any Republican that didn’t vote to side with trump on his attempt to illegally grab the election this year. On Jan 6th, this non-sense started with a riot, not a protest, not a march…a RIOT, an attempted INSURRECTION.
I have a simple solution to the problem. Have the metal detectors in place at every entryway into the Capitol. Make everybody go through that detector. If they refuse to go through it, send them home till they are willing to abide by the conditions of entering the Capitol. If they have a gun, make them take it to their car or home, BEFORE letting them enter. If they refuse, again sent them home.
But, I can almost hear the cries, that will not allow them to do their job of representing their constituents. Well, then they need to adhere to safety measures for everybody in that building trying to do the business of government and leave their guns at home where the “protection” is needed if they feel like it is.
There are guards at the Capitol and now there are even more than usual simply because there are those trying to carry guns into the chambers. Most, if not all, because of the previous administrations lies about the 2020 election.
I loathed and detested the previous administration and their lack of concern about minorities, including the LGBTQ population, but I never would have considered buying a gun to take into DC. That is insanity pure and simple. Yet, there are congress persons still bloviating about “their right” to be armed in the Capitol and even the Chambers.
When I went, in both Nashville and New Orleans to any kind of courthouse, the first thing I had to do was take everything metal out of pockets so they could guarantee that I had no weapons. The same logic should apply to our congresspersons, especially with threats being made and even some of the congresspersons themselves giving cover for the people doing the threatening. Who knows who to trust in such an atmosphere. And the easiest thing is just to check everybody and apply the same safety measure to everybody.
Get over yourself, so-called 2nd amendment lovers, that amendment was never meant to be used in order to threaten and intimidate people who simply disagree with you politically.
