More proof that no “civil discourse” is likely to start till trump is gone
Ok, some accuse me of hating the man in the White House. Now, I will be honest, I have no love or respect for the tantrum throwing bully currently residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Av. But even more than disliking him, I don’t trust him. He has given me and many others plenty of reason not to trust him. Even when he originally told the DREAMERS they were in no danger and that it was really illegal murders and/or rapists that were the real targets, he proved to be a man who couldn’t be trusted. Not too long after that more or less reasonable assurance, he switched streams and focused on the DREAMERS and when after them.
Well, within the last two days, an NBC reporter, Peter Alexander, gave him what should have been a softball question if he had truly wanted to reassure the American people. Instead he decided, like the school yard bully that he really is to go after the reporter. Instead of saying “please folks, don’t worry. Instead of saying something like “follow the guidelines we give you, stay at home when possible and we will all work together for a resolution”, he used the opportunity to vent his spline and air his personal distaste for the media that still insists on reporting the news as it is, rather than as he wants it to be reported.
To those, especially on the right, who insist on lamenting the fact that political discourse is so divided and unfriendly, let this incident sink in. trump, the so called leader of the free world, when asked a question could very easily have been used to reassure the American people that the government was doing whatever was necessary, he decided instead to take a person swap at both the media outland and the reporter personally.
For those who like to defend trump, if any should be reading this, tell me why I should respect and/or love a man who puts his personal ego above the American people…especially a person who was supposedly elected to serve the American people. He may have done some good things more recently, but everything good he does, he manages to reverse by doing something cruel and inhumane and just downright inhumane.
I long since gave up on “civil discourse” with trump supporters. They have, by and large, totally bought into his campaign of demonization and hatred of “the other” be that other LGBT, Hispanic, Muslim, or now the Chinese. I have no time to waste on such people. But then, I have never been know for my patience. Even if trump knew that the real reason Peter Alexander asked the question was to trip him, he could have used it positively and turned it around. He close not to do so. That is on HIM.
So, when will this country come together again and have “civil discourse”? Well, I don’t see it happening till our leadership is willing to do, and trump certainly is not.
By the way, if the first link doesn’t work, it does for me, it is where Peter Alexander explains his side of the “feud” and how Pence answered the very same question without attacking a few minutes later.
