Lies cause massive heartache…thanks right wing media for getting this crap going
We all know what has been going on for a while now. Most of us, hopefully, by now, have gotten the reports about the bomb threats against City Hall and various schools (High and College) in Springfield, Ohio. It has been started, or at least kept going and made more dangerous by the fact that trump and vance have encouraged and exaggerated, and let’s be honest, spread the lies across the whole country. Now, as a result, we have a history of the last few days wherein, the city has been turned upside down.
Now, the Police, the Mayor (or City Manager) and even the Governor has tried to put a stop to it, but Vance has continued to spread the rumor anyway. He has even used as an excuse the idea that the media wasn’t paying any attention to a city in distress until he made a deal about…and he was willing to even lie if it got attention on the problem. And what exactly was this “problem”? Well, according the the city government as well as the state government, the issue was the fairly rapid increase in the population.
Apparently Springfield was part of the rust belt and had lost population as jobs left the city. Then a year or so, or however long ago, they came up with a new industry to settle in Springfield and ended up not having enough population to provide the labor to allow the business to succeed. So, since Hiatians were leaving and LEGALLY getting asylum because of the conditions in their home country, Springfield was a place open to the new immigrants. Furthermore, the governor and the city say those Haitain workers are doing an excellent job and are working hard and are in no sense a problem to the city.
The problem with that is that the infrastructure had gotten used to having the lower number of people (about 45,000) and the 15,000 extra people caused a growing spurt that they were, in fact, having trouble taking care of. Two of the problems were the lack of enough medical personal. Haiti has poor health care, and those people coming from there had not gotten even the basic vaccines that we require in the United States. In addition, the traffic situation was made difficult because of new people being in a different location than they were used to.
Apparently, there was, in fact, a young boy that ended up getting killed in a vehicle accident with an Haitain driving the car that hit the bus. The father of that boy has made public announcements explaining that trump and Vance using his son’s name for their political gain was NOT anything he approved. He further said that his son was not “murdered” and that the car accident his son died in was just that…an accident.
Now, a woman who posted something on facebook about “a neighbors cat being possibly eaten” has indicated that she has withdrawn that post and is apologizing for ever posting it. She has now informed NBC that she made a horrible, horrible mistake and was shocked when what she thought was a simple post that might cause concern but otherwise would not get that much attention had caused the City Hall and several schools to be evacurated and closed down. And the facebook page would likely be fine if politicals with an agenda hadn’t co-opted the post for their advantage, making actual human lives be in danger. In addition, there was a woman that was trying to eat a cat, but she was not Haitain and lived in Cleveland instead. So all the “videos” these people are using are often misleading and are being used to demonize a group of people that are trying to make a good life and work in this country.
So, all of us need to be careful what we post but at the same time, we are in an even worse situation now when politicians (trump and vance and many of their followers) are willing to use unfortunate things we may say in a weak moment to cause virtually unstoppable damage to the fabric of our society.
That does not, by the way, mean that I will support trump/vance in any way nor refrain from saying what I believe to be true. I just won’t make dangerous claims like accusing others of eating animals or attacking minorities…which is the reason I don’t like trump/vance in the first place. And has always been the reason.
