Could Oprah be our way out?
This is a discussion starter as much as anything. Personally I still kind of believe in the citizen-politican idea that anybody should try for an office if they have the talents. I have run this idea that is circulating up the flagpool and have heard all the reactions about Oprah not being a professional politican. But it seems to me that “professional politicans” are part of the problem. Not that trump is any better, he is not. But it is not his “freshness” that is the issue, in my opinion, it is the fact that he is a horrible human being.
Oh and other names like Tim Wise and some younger democrats have been suggested as well by folks.
Lets just hear what others reading this might think.
I seem to be a bit behind the times every day, but I do eventually catch up. i had never thought of Oprah Winfrey running for the White House until today when I heard her speech from this weekend and read an article about her being as qualified as anyone. And nobody thought Obama had a chance in 2008, or that trump had a chance in 2016.
Certainly, she is more an example of the Ameriucan Dream than trump is or ever will be. Unlike him, she actually DID work her way up from nothing. trump on the other hand got handed money by his father, invested in real estate that went up in worth exponially and still managed to go bankrupt four or five times as least. Oprah just kept builting, starting from abject poverty to now being worth approximately 2.8 billion dollars.
Now THAT is the American dream, which is constituted, in the lore, as being a rags to riches. Heavan knows that doesn’t work for everybody, and Oprah was extremley lucky in her abilities and support system to be able to do it. However, she is certainly more representative of what makes American great than the current person in the White house.
A man, I might add who despite his statements during the campaign about helping ALL Americans has worked for th rich and powerful and caused more suffering for the poor. Jeff Session’s rebooting of the old “drug war” where people with half an ounce of marijuna have their lives ruined is one example.
The betrayal of the DREAMERS is another place where even his half heartedly decent comments have been rescinded in place of exporation. Tieing it to a wall that won’t do the job, and will cost huge amounts of money is a disingenius way of trying to hind the fact that he is simply anti-minority.
In this months Stand put out by the ACLU, there are a list of people that are suffering because of this man and his anti-real American agenda. America is supposed to stand up for what is right and decent for ALL not just more power for the rich….people like trump himself. In addition, there was the horrible muslim ban that had to be fighted by the ACLU, with aid from many companies including Lyfte and several othsrs. The LGBQT sommunity have also come under attack.
No less a luminary than David Axelrod has referred to Oprah as one better possibles for an anti-trump in 2020. As I said above, she is an example of the real idea of rags to riches. In addition, she has been of service to many, whether it be sendng money to build schools in Africa or giving cars out to her studio audience.
The giving away of cars was a nice publi8cally stunt, and may not have ended up costing her that much. However, she is on record as haivng donated ovr 400 million dollars to various charity and benefidence outlets by 2012. Who knows what it is now.
She also stands for working for all, especaily those so often ignored by our society. She has a heart as well as a brain.
Again the difference between her and trumpn couldn’t be more pronounced. I would certainly vote for her over trump….but then i would vote for Donald Duck before I would vote for that monster. Whether she is the one that runs and gets my vote will of course depend on her full platform if she runs…if there are others on the democratic side running.
